As I think of how I got here
Gazing in reflection
With potential great and clear
Just wanting some direction
Few dared try and none succeeded
In having the right approach
I always needed but never found
A truly exceptional coach
And so I ended up adrift
In the sea that we call life
Confused, bewildered and heartbroken
My soul filled up with strife
A bitterness I carried
From year to endless year
To survive in a world that made no sense
Full of anger to mask the fear
Of understanding nothing
While others glided by
Their life on a path with purpose
A twinkle in their eye
“How did they get there?” I wondered
“Who is helping them out?”
While I float around aimless and wanting
To be shown what it’s all about
Eventually I came to be
What I never knew that I wanted
Yet it made perfect sense looking in the past tense
To heal a soul so haunted
What I’m blessed to do provides help for me too
In addition to helping others
Caring for pets isn’t like having coworkers
It’s like having sisters and brothers
So now I can say that I spend my days
Filled with so much love that I swoon
I’ll be happily out and I’ll never pout
In a cold rainy week in June
